Detailing Services
What is Detailing? Detailing is a term used to describe advanced valeting techniques that require specialist equipment, products and skills. The main goals are typically beautification and protection but also cover minor paintwork repair, surface restoration and paintwork enhancement. Detailing also covers areas of a car that are usually ignored such as the engine, engine bay, wheels, wheel arches, soft tops, trims and chrome work.
Applying greater attention to the car in order to create a just out of the showroom result. Ride Revive offers set details which can be tailored to your own requirements (see below for further information).
Below are some terms and techniques associated with detailing.
Wax & Sealant Application
Waxes and paint sealants are non abrasive products that when applied correctly, enhance the paintwork and protect the finish created by the polishing process. Applying either of them gives a greater depth of shine and increases protection that can last for months.
A standard or full valet can be upgraded by having a high quality wax or sealant professionally applied to your car's freshly polished paintwork, creating a deeper, longer lasting finish and giving added protection.
Clay Barring
Clay barring is a method used to prepare a car's paintwork prior to polishing and wax application. The specialist clay removes any contaminants that are still present on the surface of the paintwork after the vehicle has been washed, such as tar, over-spray, tree sap and brake dust. This method involves passing the lubricated clay over the paintwork, lifting off the contaminants exposing clean paintwork which can be polished and waxed.
Clay barring is a very effective method which creates the foundation to an outstanding finish.
Paintwork Correction
Generalised to these three categories:
- Oxidised & faded paintwork correction
Occurring to the paintwork of mainly older or higher mileage cars due to oxidisation of unprotected paintwork, red and white cars are particularly prone to this, paintwork appears dull, faded and rough to touch - red cars can look quite pink.
Swirl marks are typically caused by automated car washes or poor washing and polishing techniques which almost looks like a spider web in direct sunlight.
- Minor scratches & scuff correction
The above paintwork defects can be rectified by using specialised techniques, products and equipment to restore the paintwork back without the need to apply paint.
